Yoshiki Tokura started his academic career by acquiring his Doctor of Medicine (MD) in 1982 at Hamamatsu University School of Medicine. He became a Resident Doctor specializing in Dermatology and subsequently, an Instructor in 1984. Dr. Tokura completed his PhD in 1988 at the same institution in Japan.

In 1989, he became a visiting Researcher at Yale University. Then in 1992, he accepted a position at Hamamatsu University as Assistant Professor and in 2000 became an Associate Professor. During 2002-2010, he was Professor and Chairman of the Dermatology Department, University of Occupational and Environmental Health. In 2011, he returned to the School of Medicine at Hamamatsu University as Professor and Chairman of their Dermatology Department.

Dr. Tokura is a member of various societiesamong them, Japanese Society for Investigative Dermatology (JSID) President, 2008-2011; Japanese Dermatological Association (JDA), Board of Directors; Japanese Society for Dermatoallergology and Contact Dermatitis, Vice President; Japanese Skin Cancer Society, Board of Directors; Japanese Society for Photomedicine and Photobiology (JSPP), Board of Directors; and Japanese Committee for Sunlight Protection, Board of Directors.

Dr. Tokura is also Editor-in- Chief for The Journal of Dermatology (2011-2013) and is on the Editorial Boards for Experimental Dermatology and Dermatologica Sinica.

His research interests focus on Immunology/Allergology, Photobiology, and Cutaneous lymphomas. Dr. Tokura has published 460 articles and 40 Books or review articles.
